The major electrolytes sodium, chloride, potassium, calcium and magnesium are key nutrients required for nerve and muscle function, maintenance of normal hydration and digestive, kidney, lung and heart function. Sub-optimal electrolyte intake is a frequent cause of poor performance in competition horses and racehorses. Palatability problems with ordinary electrolytes can limit feed and electrolyte supplement intake and cause irritation of the stomach and intestines. Concentrated electrolytes have also been shown to irritate or cause gastric ulceration in horses. Gastrokind does not dissolve in the stomach, so eliminating irritation that can occur from ordinary electrolytes. Gastrokind is suitable for all horses and ponies at rest and during exercise.
